Nvidia and Tesla chase same self-driving goal via varying paths
Jensen Huang, chief executive officer of Nvidia, talks about partnering with Mercedes Benz during the Nvidia Live event at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday. Jensen Huang took the stage at the CES trade show in Las Vegas this week to make the clearest pitch yet for Nvidia's autonomous driving technology. In doing so, the chief executive officer's vision for vehicles that can drive themselves edged into the terrain of major customers like Tesla and its boss, Elon Musk. Huang's remarks sparked a widely watched -- if notably polite -- indirect multiday exchange between two of the most influential figures in technology. It also sharpened a central question about autonomous driving: Who controls the technology that will first power consumer cars that drive themselves -- and later, driverless cars known as robotaxis that are designed for ride-hailing?

Malaysia suspends access to Musk's Grok AI
Malaysia's tech regulator said on Sunday that the country suspended access to Elon Musk's chatbot Grok over AI-generated pornographic content. AFP-JIJI - Malaysia suspended access to Elon Musk's chatbot Grok over AI-generated pornographic content, the country's tech regulator said on Sunday. The decision follows global backlash after it emerged that Grok's image creation feature allowed users to sexualize pictures of women and children using simple text prompts. On Saturday Indonesia became the first country to deny all access to the tool, which has been restricted to paying subscribers elsewhere. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said in a statement it had directed a temporary restriction on access to the Grok artificial intelligence for users in Malaysia with immediate effect. This action follows repeated misuse of Grok to generate obscene, sexually explicit, indecent, grossly offensive and non-consensual manipulated images, the regulator said.

North Korea's Kim Yo Jong urges South Korea to investigate drone incidents
North Korea's Kim Yo Jong urges South Korea to investigate drone incidents Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, arrives at the Vostochny Сosmodrome before a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, in Russia's far eastern Amur region in September 2023. Seoul - North Korea's Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, urged South Korea to investigate recent drone incidents for detailed explanations, in a statement carried by state media Sunday. Kim said she personally appreciates Seoul for making a wise decision to announce its official stance that it has no intention of provocation, warning that any provocations will result in terrible situations, the official Korean Central News Agency said. Drones were flown from South Korea into North Korea earlier this month, after another intrusion in September, North Korea's military said on Saturday, which was soon followed by South Korea's response that they were not operated by the military. South Korea also said there would be a thorough investigation of a civilian possibly having operated the drones, making clear its stance of having no intention of provocation. Clear is just the fact that the drone from the ROK violated the airspace of our country, Kim said.

Swipe right for AI romance
A screenshot of Loverse app shows an AI-generated woman, characterized as a 25-year-old hair and makeup artist Miyu, registered as a female companion. When artificial intelligence first started receiving attention around the end of 2022, Goki Kusunoki was tinkering around to see what kind of services he could create with the technology. One thing clicked for him after he created an image of an attractive woman with AI -- an AI companion -- and wondered what it would be like to engage in a conversation with her. "As I kept talking with her, I found that the conversations were more enjoyable than I had expected and as the exchanges continued, my feelings gradually grew -- at some point I caught myself thinking, 'I might actually like her,'" he recounted. Amazon AI tool blindsides merchants by offering products without their knowledge
Amazon.com is using an experimental artificial intelligence tool to duplicate independent sellers' product listings, sometimes without their knowledge, then make purchases on behalf of Amazon customers. Sometime around Christmas, Sarah Burzio noticed that the holiday sales bump for her stationery business included some mysterious new customers: a flurry of orders from anonymous email addresses associated with Amazon.com. Burzio, who doesn't sell her products on the retail giant's site, soon discovered that Amazon had duplicated her product listings and made purchases on behalf of Amazon customers under email addresses that read like gibberish followed by buyforme.amazon. I didn't worry about, it to be honest," she said. In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever. Japanese startups tout chatbot-powered apps as treatment for medical conditions
For Taro Ueno, a psychiatrist and president of Susmed, the idea to develop an app for insomnia came from observing how doctors in Japan overprescribe sleeping pills. Japan's medical industry has generally been slow to embrace digital technology, with many clinics still keeping patient records and writing prescriptions on paper. But a few domestic startups have recently launched chatbot-powered apps designed to help treat a range of conditions, such as hypertension, alcohol addiction and insomnia. Unlike the plethora of lifestyle apps anyone with a smartphone can download, these are prescription-only medical apps whose efficacy has been demonstrated in clinical trials. For Taro Ueno, a psychiatrist and brain researcher, the idea to develop an app for insomnia came from observing how doctors in Japan overprescribe sleeping pills. In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever.

Self-driving tech, AI take center stage at CES as automakers dial back EV plans
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang speaks about autonomous-driving vehicles during a Nvidia keynote address at CES 2026, an annual consumer electronics trade show, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday. LAS VEGAS - Autonomous driving technology is expected to dominate the CES trade show in Las Vegas this week as investors bet that artificial intelligence will invigorate an industry beset by slow progress, high costs, safety incidents and regulatory scrutiny. Just as automakers have hit the brakes on electric vehicle (EV) plans and look for their next money maker, a slew of auto suppliers and start ups are lining up to show off their latest autonomous vehicle hardware and software. Partnerships and deals that promise to take away much of a driver's responsibilities, or remove the need for a human driver completely, are expected to be announced. This year you will see more and more focus on AI and autonomous, said C.J. Finn, U.S. automotive industry leader for PwC, adding that how companies use AI to solve the challenge of rolling out driverless cars safely will be closely watched. That connectivity on autonomous, I do think will be front and center.

'Remove her clothes': Global backlash over Grok sexualized images
Grok, a chatbot developed by xAI, has faced criticism for churning out incorrect information about recent crises. Washington - Elon Musk's AI tool Grok faced growing international backlash Monday for generating sexualized deepfakes of women and minors, with the European Union joining the condemnation and Britain warning of an investigation. Complaints of abuse flooded the internet after the recent rollout of an "edit image" button on Grok, which enabled users to alter online images with prompts such as "put her in a bikini" or "remove her clothes." The digital undressing spree, which follows growing concerns among tech campaigners over proliferating AI "nudify" apps, prompted swift probes or calls for remedial action from countries including France, India and Malaysia.
